Supported lodgings
Supported lodgings foster care can be made available to children aged 16 to 18 as they become an independent adult.
A safe home and a reliable, friendly adult ready with practical advice and support is incredibly beneficial for young people who are preparing to leave care.
Supported lodgings carers pass on important life skills to the young people in their care. Gaining confidence with planning and preparing nutritious meals, budgeting and finances, doing laundry and managing a home is essential when you are thinking about leaving home. They also encourage young people with their studies or apprenticeships, help with homework, and are there to talk through plans and ideas for the future.
"Kids aged 14 to 16 or older often won't get fostered because people want younger children. So that's where we felt we could make the biggest difference. These are the children that just don't get a chance and I love being able to give them that, I absolutely love it."
